Native to South Africa, freesias are renowned worldwide for their elegant beauty and fragrance. Featuring as many as eight funnel-shaped purple flowers that form a loose cluster at the top of each stalk, freesias are a popular wedding floral used in bridal bouquets, centerpieces and as boutonnieres. These lovely flowers were named by botanist Christian P. Ecklon in honor of his close friendship with fellow botanist and physician Friedrich H.T. Freese. As a result, these blooms carry with them the symbolism of friendship. Freesia flowers represent innocence, thoughtfulness, trust, and sweetness.

These blooms range from lavender to medium purple flowers and make a striking addition to many floral designs. Depending on the time of year in which your celebratory occasion is taking place, you can complement them with pastel hues or for a more dramatic display, with bright yellows, purples, and lush greenery, perfect for your wedding flowers. They also look stunning when grouped on their own in several bunches or with different colored freesias such as yellow or white.

Suggestions: Freesia blooms take a little longer to bloom and sometimes the multiple blooms do not bloom simultaneously. We recommend giving them a fresh cut as soon as you receive them, adding a small amount of flower food to warm water, and allowing them to rehydrate in indirect sunlight for a couple hours. After a few hours in sun, move Freesia stems to a cool environment and keep them in cool water until you are ready to use them for your DIY event!
